Balaban [bAlAbAn] is a wind instrument which has a soft and sorrowful sound. It is mostly played in Kurdistan and Azerbaijan regions. In old books it is called Bolbolan Ney [bolbol ney] (nightingale flute) which have sorrowful sound. The name Balaban is derived from Bolbolan and the duration of time has made a change in name. This instrument was called Manehchang in India. It is played in Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia too. |
